Anything worth doing is worth doing badly

If you know me, you already know that I love to run. It’s my way of re-energizing, my way of clearing my mind.

So, I was out running the other day and it was the first time for almost three months. That is a long time for me to not be running.

And during my run I found myself thinking all kinds of thoughts. One thought in particular got me thinking that I might not be so fit to be running. I realized that I was feeling a little self-conscious.

All these negative thoughts were running through my head as I was running through the streets. Thoughts like:

“I might not look good enough in my running gear”.

“I’ve probably gained some weight due to my hiatus and all of that”.

And then it hit me.

You don’t run because you’re fit.

You run either to get fit or to maintain your fitness

AND, hopefully you run, because you enjoy running.

You don’t lift weights because you’re strong. You lift weights to either get strong or to maintain your strength.

And getting strong or getting fit comes way before maintaining it.

I mean, how often do we hesitate and hold ourselves back just because we’re thinking, “I can’t” or “I don’t think I’m ready.”

We think we need this or have that BEFORE we can do it.

I mean, yes, you can suck at something.

But the real question is, do you want to get better?

Anything worth doing is worth doing badly.

When we have a strong enough reason we can handle any circumstances.

Not that you need it, but here’s me giving you PERMISSION to go after that thing that you desire or dream after.

Even though you might not feel like you’re ready to start. You have the permission to suck at whatever it is.

And please, keep going…

Because if you keep doing the work, you will get better!

Through small seemingly insignificant improvement done consistently over time, you can create the results and the life you dream about.

So, I invite you to go out there and be awful at something, suck at something; something that matters.

BUT PLEASE, DON’T QUIT!
