HAPPINESS… What is it really?
We all want to be happy and preferably have MORE of it, right?
Well, Do not try to be happy; do this instead …
You’ve heard me say this before and I will say it again, You don’t get what you want, you get what you are.
Let me explain it further.
When you want something, it’s kind of implying that you don’t have it already; therefore, you want to get it.
However, I genuinely believe that happiness is already within us; it is our neutral state.
There were studies done about happiness and the difference between being happy and pursuing happiness.
These studies showed that pursuing happiness actually doesn’t make you happy. But BEING happy makes you happy …
So there’s a paradox.
Being happy makes you happy, but wanting to be happy or going after happiness makes you less happy.
Can you see what’s going on here?
When you pursue happiness, then you are coming from a place of, “I am not happy.”
You’re coming from a place of lack. It’s again implying that you’re not already happy. So when you are chasing after happiness, you are basically trapping yourself in the never ending loop of not getting there … Because you are chasing it.
What I am suggesting is that you instead simply get into the state of being happy.
Now, that sounds easy, right? You might go, “yeah, that’s obvious, and how do I get there?!”
Let this be my invitation to you.
Remember that I said at the beginning of this, that you will not get what you want. You get what you are;
So, if you became a happy person, chances are, you’d be happy now.
How do you do this??
Have it be a place to come from rather than a place to get to.
Grab a pen and paper or take notes elsewhere, and ask yourself:
If I was happy;
Who would I be?
What would I do?
What would I say, and how would I act if I come from a place of being happy?
Note down anything that comes into your mind.
Looking at your list, what could you start DOING today? It can be small, it can be big, and it’s something that you did today. And because you did it, you BECAME the happy person you thought you could only be once you get there…
That’s the trick! That’s how
You can come from that place now! You can generate those actions, feelings, thoughts, ideas in this moment.
This, to me, is one of the biggest signs that happiness really comes from within, that it’s already available inside us.
So again, by having it as a place to come from, you can embody happiness today.
It is a simple concept, although the practice itself can be a bit challenging.
And I invite you to do this for yourself, today and see how your life can transform.
